What Is a Shopify Profit & Pricing Calculator?
A Shopify profit and pricing calculator helps ecommerce merchants estimate how much money may remain from a product sale after selected product and order-related costs are taken into account.
Looking only at the difference between product cost and selling price can give an incomplete picture. Shipping, packaging, discounts, payment fees, advertising costs and returns can all affect estimated per-order profitability.

Profit Margin vs Markup
Profit margin and markup are related profitability metrics, but they measure different relationships.
| Metric | Meaning | Basic Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Profit Margin | Profit expressed as a percentage of revenue. | Profit ÷ Revenue × 100 |
| Markup | Profit expressed relative to product cost. | Profit ÷ Product Cost × 100 |
What Is Break-Even ROAS?
Break-even ROAS estimates the revenue-to-ad-spend ratio at which the amount available before advertising is consumed by advertising cost.
For example, if adjusted sale revenue is $50 and $25 remains available for advertising after the selected non-advertising costs, the estimated break-even ROAS would be 2.00x.
What Is Maximum CPA?
Maximum CPA represents the estimated amount available for customer acquisition before the calculator's per-order profit reaches zero.
A business may choose a lower target CPA because additional profit may still be required to cover overhead, software, taxes, salaries, warehousing and other expenses.
How Is Profit Margin Calculated?
Profit margin expresses the calculated profit as a percentage of the revenue generated by the sale after the entered discount.
How Is Markup Calculated?
Markup compares calculated profit with the product cost entered into the calculator.
How Is the Target Selling Price Estimated?
The target selling price uses the desired margin together with the entered product cost, shipping, packaging, advertising, fixed payment fee, percentage payment fee, discount and return allowance.
It estimates the regular price required under those assumptions.
Costs Shopify Merchants Should Consider
Example Shopify Product Profit Calculation
Imagine a product with a regular selling price of $50. The product cost is $15, shipping costs $5, packaging costs $1 and advertising costs approximately $8 per order.
The merchant can enter the payment fees applicable to their own setup and optionally account for discounts and returns.
The calculator then estimates total entered costs, net profit, margin, markup, break-even ROAS and maximum CPA.
Changing any input makes it possible to compare different pricing and cost scenarios before making a business decision.
Why Product Profit Can Be Different From Revenue
Revenue tells you how much money a sale generates before relevant costs are deducted. Profit considers the costs included in the calculation.
A store can therefore generate substantial revenue while retaining a much smaller amount after product, fulfillment, payment, advertising and other costs.
